【RELEASE INFO】Les Rallizes Dénudés' "fourth album," conceived by Takashi Mizutani, finally materializes after 35 years. The album, titled "Disque 4," is set to be released.
Les Rallizes Dénudés' new album, "Disque 4 - '76 Studio et Live -", is scheduled for simultaneous release on CD and LP (colored vinyl) on Wednesday, April 1st. In advance of this, the single "White Awakening" from the album was made available for worldwide streaming on Friday, February 13th.
During the production of the three original albums released in 1991 ('67-'69 STUDIO et LIVE', 'MIZUTANI / Les Rallizes Dénudés', and ''77 LIVE'), Takashi Mizutani was simultaneously working on another album.
The materials prepared on various media such as U-matic, open reel, and DAT all contained the number "4," including notations like "Disque 4" and "Record No. 4," indicating they were for a "fourth album." Furthermore, traces were found suggesting an attempt to compile these materials into an analog record format (approximately 20 minutes per A and B side).
It was also discovered that each song, mainly compiled from studio performances from multiple sources, was consistently recorded in 1976. This aligns with testimony that Mizutani himself once hinted at the existence of "another album in addition to the three released, consisting of studio recordings with the same members as on ''77 LIVE'."
However, it is not difficult to imagine that in the early 90s, when the system had just transitioned from analog records to compact discs, releasing an analog record was extremely difficult. The "fourth album" thus became a phantom work.
This album reconfigures the songs Mizutani carefully selected for the fourth album, excluding "Hibiscus no Hana Aruiwa Michitarita Shi" (※included in 'Jittoku '76'). Based on Mizutani's masters, and by unearthing and using tapes closer to the originals, it was once again produced and mastered by Makoto Kubota.
While Les Rallizes Dénudés' music is known for its immense volume and playing time in live performances, this work, compiled into the size of a single analog record with a focus on studio recordings, transcends the image of a deluge of aggressive noise, clearly bringing to the forefront its core "lyricism." And it goes without saying that this, too, is a charm of Les Rallizes that continues to attract fans worldwide.
