Satoko Shibata / My Favorite Things [LP]
  • Solo artist Satoko Shibata is set to release a new version of Your Favorite Things titled My Favorite Things on LP.

This album is a stripped-down solo reinterpretation of her previous work, with all performances by Satoko Shibata herself. The project was co-produced by Takuro Okada.
Satoko Shibata’s Comment on My Favorite Things
The idea for My Favorite Things came from Takuro Okada, who co-produced Your Favorite Things. He suggested creating an acoustic solo version, which led me to embark on this project.

Although I had done countless solo performances before, I had never given much thought to the sonic quality or ideal form of this approach. That’s why I had always hesitated to make a solo album like this—I lacked a clear direction and wasn’t confident I could pull it off. But with Okada’s support, I felt that something good might come out of it, and so I went into the recording process.

As expected, I struggled with my limitations and my lack of experience in arranging for a solo setting. I found myself confronting my own arrogance and insensitivity, realizing just how I had been coasting along until now. The process was often embarrassing and exhausting, but looking back, I’m truly glad I went through it.

Without this album, I would have continued my solo performances without ever truly questioning my approach. It felt as if I had been rescued from a quiet crisis. I also realized that music is never easy, no matter what form it takes—there's always something more to think about, always more to learn.

To be able to revisit something so fundamental with someone as talented as Takuro Okada was an incredible privilege. From the second day of recording onwards, Okada, our manager Hayama, and I took on the SSL mixing console, wrestling with it together. (I, for one, never fully grasped how it worked before we finished!)

Additionally, Yu Taniguchi gave me one-on-one coaching on playing the piano for this recording and stood by me throughout the process, encouraging me even when I felt completely hopeless.
To everyone who helped make this album possible—thank you! This was an invaluable experience, and I truly believe we created something special. I hope you’ll enjoy this album as much as Your Favorite Things.

    Thank you, and please enjoy!
