Wa No Wa / Wa No Wa RMX&DUB [12-inch] KOKO-108 / TBV-0038

[Description]

For years, among some music enthusiasts in Japan, the cult ambient work Wa No Wa has been a topic of discussion. Now, a remix & dub 12-inch vinyl featuring remixes of this work has emerged, with contributions from Naoyuki Uchida and rapper RITTO!

Originally released on CD in 2022 by CROSSPOINT, curated by JUZU a.k.a. MOOCHY, Wa No Wa features improvised ambient compositions recorded by 12 users of the "Taiyo no Ie" facility, a disability support center in Yamazoe Village, Nara Prefecture, using the monophonic percussion instrument called "Quaiyachime." This unique release garnered attention when it was reissued on vinyl this year as a triple-name release by CROSSPOINT, 17853 Records curated by Chee Shimizu, and TUFF VINYL.

On Side X, we have the "MEISOU DUB" by one of Japan's foremost dub masters, Naoyuki Uchida. Each fresh and transparent note of Wa No Wa is transformed by Uchida's expertise into a majestic dub tune with a solid bass foundation.

Side Y features the "TAIDOU RMX", which has been reborn as a tech-based tune, and also includes a version featuring rapper RITTO, representing Okinawa. In this version, RITTO's dope message intertwines with the deep grooves created by CPS (SINKICHI & J.A.K.A.M.), accentuated by the performance of Christopher Fryman, a British trumpeter based in Kyoto.

These remixes bring the original mysterious and ethereal sounds into a dance music format, making them DJ-friendly while still allowing listeners to savor the music's intricacies.
