★ French electro unit Suitcase Rhodes returns with a new single on a 7-inch vinyl after 20 years!
Debuting as a duo in 1999 with vocalist Yuko Takami and composer-arranger Atsushi Yamane, Suitcase Rhodes made a mark in the early 2000s with their French pop meets neo-acoustic style, creating a unique and catchy musical universe. Their new release features a fresh track titled "quelque part" on the A-side—a French-touch song with a dramatic progression. The sound, processed using live instruments, resonates with vibes reminiscent of AIR and Röyksopp.
On the B-side, "fancy you" dives into the new wave of drum and bass, a trend expanding primarily on platforms like TikTok. While incorporating the massive beats of drum and bass, the song maintains a dreamy quality akin to bedroom music. With whispering vocals, it exudes a "girly" mood throughout.
This release has been meticulously crafted using half-speed cutting, and for the final mastering and cutting stage, the team traveled to London's Abbey Road Studios. There, they collaborated with the maestro Miles Showell, known for his work with The Beatles, Pink Floyd, The Police, and more, resulting in a work they are proud of.

Debuting in 1999 as a duo with vocalist Yuko Takami and composer-arranger Atsushi Yamane.
(Yamane, in recent years, has worked as an engineer for major artists such as Takuya Kimura, ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION, and Shutoku Mukai, among many others).
Their first single, Hibi no Awa, quickly rose to the top of sales charts at Tower Records and other foreign record shops, without having performed live—a sudden rising star that garnered attention. Subsequently, they embarked on live tours in venues such as the Shibuya Public Hall.
They followed up with the exotic, French-language single Ihōjin, which also dominated the charts at record shops. Riding the wave of the After Shibuya scene at the time, their songs were frequently aired on various FM and TV stations. They even started a regular program on Kyoto α-STATION (FM Kyoto), serving as hosts for two years.
In 2000, they released their first album pop music for pop people., followed by their second album carrefour in 2002. Skillfully incorporating English, Japanese, and French into their lyrics, they garnered high praise as pioneers of Japanese French electro. Even after their hiatus in 2004, the acclaim for their released works remained high, with many being reissued by major record companies abroad. Their music has been continuously used by the BBC for 23 years. They returned with a long-awaited new release in 2023, and while the new track has been available for streaming since October 18th, it has received widespread praise from a diverse audience who might not have heard their previous works, spreading across social media.
