21st-century music city Tel Aviv's representative rock guitarist, UZI RAMIREZ 2nd Album!
As a founding member of Boom Pam, after departing from the band, Uzi has collaborated with various artists from Israel's diverse genres, including jazz trumpeter Avishai Cohen, multi-instrumentalist Kutiman, and female singer-songwriter Carolina.
His second solo album, Cheese in My Pocket, released in 2014, features over 20 musicians. The song arrangements range from traditional rock band setups to string quartets, brass sections, old-timey live instrument ensembles, and mixed-gender choruses. The album delivers a straightforward psychedelic rock experience with unique instrumentation."
In 2015, when seeking stimulating music globally, one cannot overlook Israel's music scene. Bands like Boom Pam celebrated as the "surf rock band of the Mediterranean", and Idan Raichel, an ambassador of Israeli music, have garnered international acclaim. Jazz musicians like Avishai Cohen and Omer Avital, who have honed their skills on the American jazz forefront since the 90s, also contribute to Israel's vibrant music scene.
With a population of only 8 million and the constant shadow of conflict in the Middle East, how can such rich music emanate from? Israel's music scene seems to rival that of late 1960s California or Rio de Janeiro, late 1970s London, or early 2000s Istanbul or Mumbai. Regardless of personal sentiments towards Israel as a country, there is no denying that Israeli music of the 2010s is gradually gaining recognition among music enthusiasts worldwide.
From this vibrant scene emerges another talented guitarist and singer-songwriter, Uzi Fainelman, his stage name is Uzi Ramirez.
To simply describe his music, it's an overwhelming blend of blues, country & western, swamp rock, and Americana. His musical influences include Bob Dylan from the 1960s, George Harrison from the early 1970s, Woody Guthrie from the 1940s, and his deep bass voice reminiscent of Lou Reed. A true rock 'n' roller and guitarist, his looks perfectly match his musical style: long hair, beard, and oversized glasses, with a slightly geeky appearance.
Uzi first appeared on Israel's music scene around 2002 as a founding member of Boom Pam. After two albums with Boom Pam, he left around 2008 and formed a new trio band, Ramirez Brothers, with Uzi on guitar, Sephi on trumpet, and Kitkat on drums. The name Ramirez is derived from Richard Ramirez, a serial killer who murdered 13 people in the 1980s on the West Coast of America. All three members of the band adopted the Ramirez surname, similar to bands like Ramones or OKAMOTO'S. Since then, Uzi adopted the stage name Uzi Ramirez and began pursuing Americana music while actively collaborating with artists from various genres in Israel, showcasing his guitar skills.
His 2nd solo album under the name Uzi Ramirez, released in 2014, is Cheese in My Pocket.
